Ten-finger with the grip more in the palm is recommended. Grip pressure is high.
Two, I hit the ball considerably longer with driver when swinging, although my irons are only slightly longer. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
I guess because, in "swinging", there is more degree of freedom (moving parts and space) for generating the speed (or momentum). With slower speed, the same amount of momentum can be compensated with more "effective mass" or "clubhead lag" or "shaft flex/stress" to a certain degree in "hitting".
So, under the same amount of power output, you need to find the balance between "hitting speed" and "clubhead heaviness" to generate the optimal ball speed.
