Top 25 Posters - Bucket takes the lead

Bagger Lance 1,526

EdZ 1,169

Here's the short list of the top 5.
Yoda out-classes us by a mile, so I'm not even going to count him in the field.

For years I've had the #2 spot and now I'm so far behind my deep fried friend, there's no chance for recovery.
(Admins shouldn't count in the polls anyway)

Congrats Bucket! Keep up the good work.
No slacking or I'm taking the spot back!

I'm heading back to my wiring closet to sulk for a while.

(P.S. MikeO is #17 on the list. When he finds out he'll probably break my glasses again.)

I'll publish the top 25 later.
There is a grouping of at least a dozen people within a few posts of being inside the top 25 range.

Hey, my count just went up a notch!

We're considering opening up some special forum privileges to our top posters. All of this is designed to get more forum participation going and reward those who keep things hop'in.

The first that comes to mind is if you're in the top 20, you can berate and insult the Admins (at least me) with impunity and since that one is already being exercised it's a given, but for some it may be incentive.

There are other things we could turn on, like the ability to upload photos, doc attachments and videos to the site.

We are also in the process of creating a paid subscription portion of the forum which will have access to richer content than is generally available. More on this later.

There are other ideas floating around, but if you have any suggestions on how we can get more activity and questions generated, let us know.

.

I would suggest NOT allowing Mike O to have the privileges with regards to uploading . . . from a liability perspective that could get very expensive. Barney.com allowed Mike those very privileges . . . didn't go so well for them.

On the one hand- I'd say the closer you are to the top of this list the more mental instability you have- therefore I'm not proud to be in the top 25 of this list. I'd also like to agree with Edz- (Of course, If I've mis-quoted him then I'd like Edz to agree with me!) that Bucket really has 5 understandable relavent posts ( I know I am stretching here but the poor guy - I had to at least give him 5)- therefore I would suggest that BamBam (Bagger has mental Baggage- where'd you think the name came from anyway!) review all of the posts for each forum member- subtracting out any and all posts that could be considered ramblings of a mad-man. Then re-post the entire forum list. The only way Bucket will not end up at the bottom of that list - is if you put him ahead of all non-posters- However, I would suggest that you review the five posts in question- I think when you weigh the facts- you'll be able - beyond a reasonable doubt- to rank all non-posters ahead of the one lard bucket in question. I would not normally be throwing stones- only when they are thrown first (for historically reference please refer to the Tomasello series, no make that Tom Tomasello 1991 interview (smile DG)- NO- on review I realize that you need to refer to the Drew Chapman thread post #8. And why are we constantly referring back to the Drew Chapman thread- because we want to acknowledge the time, work and effort that Drew put into getting his certificate- but more importantly saluting another individual that understands the contribution and value that Homer Kelley created! Nice Job Drew!!!

I've moved this thread to the Clubhouse Lounge.
We need to have Drew and Crew front and center in the Hole-ies section.

These guys are good!

As for all that other MikeO stuff...That boy can ramble with the best of us Suthernurs.
Not bad SOCAL.
The site could generate more traffic by becoming more "everyday" golfer friendly in the instruction forum.

Strickly speaking I have never felt that there needs to be two TGM specific forums, because for one thing, the content in one is really not that more advanced than the other anyways and for most its all "advanced". If it really is an advanced subject then there is only a handful of people would understand it anyways.

What I believe would be generate more traffic is merging the two instruction forums on the golfing machine and creating a general golfing discussion forum which anyone can post about anything instruction. The current caterisation I feel makes many posters feel they are unable to post - maybe because they feel intimidated with the language and the fact that they probably cannot understand the replies. Alot of people just have to see "primary lever assembly" and think its all too complex for them... we need to tap into these people at their level without being condescending or intimidating....

I also think that the sticky button has been abused.... there is alot to be unstuck IMO. Apart from the fact you have to scroll down half the page each time. It is not like the forum member does not know where the gallery is and this would prompt more discussing when they wish to talk about a video, they would create a new thread rather than just add another post at the end of a 8 page discussion which has already gone stagnant long ago.

Thats two things for starters I feel could be improved in IMO....

Very cool.

Thanks Mathew!

I've been trying to clear some stickies but agree it needs more work.

Making areas of the forum more "new student" friendly is a great tip and much needed as Lynn becomes more visible in the public eye.
Any volunteers for moderating that one? We'll need a bunch of folks.

By "merging" forums, do you mean the TGM basic and advanced? or LBG and somebody elses forum? Hoping you mean the former.

Great stuff.
Hmmm.. Bucket? Do we have to count all the crazy ones?

Great idea Bagger, this place is a lot of fun! - EZ

For my money quality counts over quantity.

Although I have fired a few meaningless posts out toward the Bucket my own self!

Bagger
We have enough chaff among the wheat. Uppndownn is correct -
Quality not quantity.

Yes - I'm hearing that loud and clear.
There are a lot of "fluff" posts.

We don't want lots of posts just for the sake of posting.
(But as a sportsman I do enjoy a good jousting match now and then, as long as it's all in fun ).

If we put up incentives that kind of thing can happen, but once in a while an active poster comes up with something pretty good.

Only a small percentage of our 4,000+ members are active here. In fact, it's around 1 to 2%.
That's the problem. How do we draw out more activity and questions? 10% would be great! 25% would be awesome.

No matter what your level of TGM understanding, there are still questions to be asked and answers to be shared.

Over the last 7 years, Homers work has given a lot of joy to me both on and off the course. One of the reasons I volunteered to start this forum with Lynn was to freely give back what was freely given to me. That may sound idealistic, but what would have happened if I just thought nah...too much trouble, there's enough out there already and I don't know nuth'in about websites anyway.

The three of us who voluntarily develop and run this site do it to help Lynn get the message out. It's also a place where "Iron sharpens Iron" and we can learn from each other. I'm hoping that our learned "inactive" members feel a need to help others who are struggling to sort out the "mysteries" of golf like they once were.

We have some great talent here; Professional Golfers, Amateur Golfers, Club Designers and Fitters, World Class Teachers, Photographers, Animators, Web designers, Entertainers, Fitness Gurus, etc. who keep this place going.

What kinds of things does this website need in order to address the needs of those who are lurking?
I learned a long time ago to develop products based on what customers tell me they want.

Sunday sermon concluded - Go out and spread the word.

Suggestion box is open.

And then you've got me.

Is that awesome, or what.
