Just wondering about confidence in putting.

When you have the best putting rounds do you recall if you were using angled, vertical or horizontal hinging? Or a certain hinge action for short putts and different action hinge for longer putts?

Testing, testing:

I don't believe horizontal motion is one to use in putting.
Vertical hinging works for the very short putts I quess.
Both vertical and especially angled for the longer ones.

But what do I know..?

Arc of Approach and Angled Hinging.

But the most important thing is being able to reproduce whatever geometry you choose, consistently. There's a lot of great vertical hingers from history, guys who Steered a straight back Straight through path, Billy Casper for instance. Bobby Locke pulled his puts and swayed his head. But he must have been pretty consistent at it. You could argue that Locke had a purer roll and more send than Casper maybe . I dont know. Id take either of them in a putting contest.

The key is knowing your geometry and being able to see how you comply with it so you can fix it when it breaks down. No more guessing or dabbling with different one day wonders. Fix the Hinge Action , fix the clubhead path, fix the putt. Its impact geometry at its simplest. Angled , Vertical the choice is yours.....

Although I once asked Yoda if he'd fix a guys Vertical Hinging putting if he was a good putter. "If he wanted to get better", was the answer.

Vertical and straight back straight through are still Steering......you can do it for putting but it isnt ideal impact in terms of compression, there's still layback.

I like a string line (consistent with the Arc of Approach) and monitor the face angle at Finish. Angled does see the face close.
