I think they came from the 1950's. He didn't believe in changing equipment.

Right you are, Drew (as usual!). Homer used the nine-iron from that old set to demonstrate his principles to us in our January 1982 GSEM (Golf Stroke Engineering Master) class. Said they were his "new" clubs!
